My first British car was a 1969 Austin Healey Sprite that I bought in the mid 70's, then I bought a basket case 1959 Bugeye Sprite with the engine sitting on the front seat in the mid 80's. I took some classes and restored the thing myself. I loved the whole process. I had a great teacher at Mira Costa College in Vista, CA. Over the years I have had an Alfa-Romeo GTV 2000, a 1970 Porsche 911T, but the Bristish cars have always had a special place in my heart. When I met my wife in 1993 I was driving a 1974 1/2 MG Roadster. I sold the Roadster when we got married to some friends but I still had the Bugeye. Several years later I got my father-in-law into the British car hobby. Together we found a white 1974 MGB GT in really nice condition in the early 2000's. After a little test drive and a little haggling the car was his. He drove that car to many music gigs for years until he finally gave up driving around age 86. Since I had helped him find the car he gave me first dibs on buying it. I decided to sell the Bugeye and bought the MG from my father-in-law. He passed away a year and a half ago and now that MG is much more than just a car...it's full of memories. It is still pretty much original except for electronic ignition and a side draft Weber I had installed this past year. The electronic overdrive on it still works! I still try to drive the MG to work about once a week. I smile the whole way!
